Here’s something funny: Brian “Geologist” Weitz is the only Animal Collective member who has never released a solo album. Geologist has been plenty busy outside of the main band, especially lately. Earlier this year, Geologist and Doug Shaw, aka D.S., released their collaborative LP A Shaw Deal, so that’s kind of a solo album. Also, Geologist is a member of the psych-rock super-trio Motherfuckers JMB & Co.; their very good full-length Music Excitement Action Beauty came out over the summer. And early next year, Geologist will finally join the ranks of Animal Collective members with solo albums.
