Heavy Lifter – “Control”

Oakland’s Heavy Lifter describe their sound as “queer post-bubblegum slut grunge,” which makes some kind of sense once you hear their new single “Control.” There’s a woozy slowcore quality to this song, released through their city’s Cherub Dream Records. The music creeps along like a Wednesday slow burn created in tandem with Doug Dulgarian. Frontperson Ren Forest came up in the Seattle DIY scene watching house shows by bands like Great Grandpa, whose sweet tunefulness comes through in their vocal here.
