The Divine Feminine was one of the best and most important albums of Mac Miller’s career. With 2015’s GOOD:AM, the Pittsburgh native was already redefining himself as a soulful, melodic sonic adventurer, a fixture of a burgeoning Los Angeles hip-hop scene alongside some of the brightest talents from the orbits of Odd Future and TDE. By the time he followed it up with a concept album about women’s secret energy, featuring Kendrick Lamar, Anderson .Paak, and Miller’s then-girlfriend Ariana Grande, he had successfully shed his old Blue Slide Park image and been widely recognized as a brilliant musician.
