Stella Lefty must be so happy about all the Ed Sheeran stuff. Before Sheeran submitted to billionaire demands and kicked Macklemore off of his tour, Lefty, the Groupon heiress turned flavorless country-folk-pop singer, was the easiest snark-target in the music world. Lefty’s breakout smash “Boston,” still the #2 song in America, was a big enough bite of Noah Kahan’s recent hit “Stick Season” that Kahan got writing credit, and then people kept noticing that other songs from Lefty’s debut album were blatant ripoffs of other obvious popular songs. The “Stella Thefty” jokes wrote themselves. Now, Saturday Night Live has shared a cut-for-time Weekend Update bit built on the “Stella Lefty keeps stealing other people’s songs” premise.
