Love & Devotion is one of the best albums of the year, but are we sure it’s from this year? The third LP from Philadelphia-based siblings Sam and Louise Sullivan plays like a lost treasure that has been collecting dust for decades and is now being reissued by Light In The Attic. Pulling inspiration from retro psych-pop, country, traditional folk, …

Back in the spring we learned Way Dynamic, aka Melbourne-based Dylan Young, had signed to Jagjaguwar for a reissue of his recent album Massive Shoe, as well as North American tour dates with fellow emerging indie favorites Star Moles and Slippers. That reissue includes “Officially,” a new song not included on the original Massive Shoe, which is out today with …

In her most recent work, the Philadelphia electronic producer Eev Frances turns synths and programmed beats into alternately hyperactive and serene music inspired by the Y2K-era IDM boom. Today she’s following up last year’s well-received Sometimes I Forget To Breathe (which was billed as an EP but felt like a full-length statement to me) with a new album called i …

Marta Cikojevic is a member of the Montreal band TOPS, and she also makes solo music under the name Marci. In a few weeks, she’ll release Mask Lady And Late Night Girl, her second Marci album, and we posted lead single “Butterfly Sticker.” Today, she shares the bleary, synthy new track “Liquid Heartbeat.” The song and its Elliot Weaver-directed video …

What do you think the band name Devil Master actually means? As in: Are they masters of the devil, or are they just masterful at being devils? Probably the latter, right? That’s just something I’ve been thinking about. Anyway, Devil Master, Philadelphia kings of old-school face-painted punk-metal, are about to return with their new album Bloody Dreams, and we already …

We are very excited for our prolific Artist To Watch Asher White’s forthcoming album Love Aggregates, which comes later this month. The lead single “The Eagle Is No Omen” was an eccentric banger with an equally entertaining video, and now the Brooklyn artist is sharing “Stage Diva.” The post Asher White – “Stage Diva” appeared first on Stereogum.

The veteran Boston indie rapper Esoteric really collects unlikely collaborators. Back when John Cena was early in his wrestling career and doing a rap-battle gimmick, Esoteric was a big part of that. Much more recently, Kurt Vile shouted out Czarface, Esoteric’s group with longtime partner 7L and Wu-Tang Clan member Inspectah Deck, in a Pitchfork “Perfect 10” video, which led …

We the indie rock listeners of planet Earth have collectively anointed Nate Amos as our new king. Box For Buddy, Box For Star quickly emerged as one of the greatest albums of the decade, and Holo Boy, a collection of re-recorded tunes from Amos’ back catalog, proved he’s been operating on this level for years. And then there’s all the …

Of the many great underground rock bands currently populating Cincinnati, the Drin may be the toughest to pin down. The group came on our radar playing a fried, bleary, extremely confident hybrid of throwback psych and post-punk, sounding equally like Can and the Fall. That sound worked wonders for them. But as time has gone on, they’ve thrown a bit …

The arty R&B explorer Dawn Richard has gone down many fascinating paths over the years, and she has radiated strength through all of it, whether testifying against Sean Combs or making experimental records with Spencer Zahn. Today, she announces her new album Creole Culture. Like a couple of Richard’s past records, 2019’s New Breed and 2021’s Second Line, the new …
