If you’ve navigated your web browser to stereogum dot com today, you likely know Colin Meloy first and foremost as the frontman for longstanding bookish indie-folk greats the Decemberists. But for a segment of the population, Meloy is best known as the author of the Wildwood Chronicles, a series of fantasy novels aimed at teens and preteens, set in his …

You may have noticed that Josh Homme, deep into the rollout for the new Queens Of The Stone Age album Perfecth, is looking really, really good these days. Homme was always handsome, but he’s clearly got one of these faces that gets more interesting as he ages. He’s 53 now. He’s about 6’4″. His eyes are a piercing blue. He …

One of my favorite COVID-era Bandcamp finds was Plague Skater, the lo-fi rock project of New Jersey’s Will Schwester. Under the Plague Skater banner, Schwester kicked out two albums’ worth of genre-hopping DIY intensity, 2020’s self-titled debut and 2021’s Plague Skater II. Since then, the Plague Skater account on Bandcamp has yielded lots of experimental releases under various guises, but …

It feels really, really good to hear Cardi B talk her shit. Over the past decade or so, the New York rap star has not really altered her method of shit-talk, and it’s pretty far from the current current mainstream, whether we’re talking about rap or pop. Maybe her shit-talk doesn’t hit quite the same as it did on “Bodak …

In 2023, British singer and electronic musician Aluna, formerly of AlunaGeorge, released the massively underrated album MYCELiUM. Since then, she’s been dropping singles here and there, including this year’s “Houseboy” and “Misbehave.” Today, she’s returned with another new single “Moaning,” which features Dutch producer Jengi. It’s an absolute pleasure to listen to, a scintillating dance soundtrack for wet dreams. The …

Alanis Morissette is here to remind you of the Christ-mess that you left when you went away. Look, you try to come up with a better pun. Go ahead. I’ll wait. No? You can’t? You thought of Jingled Little Pill and realized it was hopeless? Yeah, that’s what I thought. My friend, this is what I do. I am a …

According to every review that I’ve read, Phoebe Bridgers is putting in some amazing performances on her current arena tour. But unless you go see the show for yourself, you have to rely on secondhand accounts. Bridgers famously banned phones from those shows, which means there’s basically no footage out there. For instance, we know that she reunited with her …

Back in the spring, Grimes began teasing a new album called Psy Opera, as perfectly on-brand a title as I can imagine for this artist. As Grimes explained it, Psy Opera is a concept album about the potential for human extinction at the hands of AI that also stemmed from her belief that humans are not as inferior as some …

femtanyl, not to be confused with hardcore group Fentanyl or rising indie-sleaze duo the Femcels, delivered the noise overload I desperately needed this fine Friday. “All The Time,” the Canadian-American duo of Noelle Stockwood and Juno Callender’s first single since signing to Columbia Records, sounds like digital rug burn in the most satisfying way. Check it out below. The post …

The latest offering from Kimi Recor‘s upcoming album Applewater is absolutely mesmerizing. Listening to it, I imagine being somewhere dark. Maybe it’s a forest. Maybe there are trees, bats wandering around their branched limbs. But there is certainly fog that grows outwards and upwards, majestic and slow and consuming. “Call To U,” with its haunting vocals and tender harp strums, …
