Director Justin Tipping’s football-themed horror movie Him is out tomorrow, and so is its soundtrack. One component of the tracklist is new rap songs featuring production by Bobby Krlic aka the Haxan Cloak, who composed the film’s score. Two weeks ago we heard great Krlic-produced tunes from Tierra Whack and Guapdad 4000, both of whom make their cinematic debuts in …

The Lemonheads made some of the best sugary alt-rock albums that came out of the ’90s. On Oct. 24 they’ll release Love Chant, the band’s first new collection of all-original songs in 19 years, via Fire Records. Lead Lemonhead Evan Dando has an intriguing memoir coming too — Rumors Of My Demise is out Oct. 7 via Gallery Books in …

Gorillaz have a large Gen Z following, and to kick off the rollout for the genre-blurring, culture-jamming multimedia band’s next album, Damon Albarn is giving that audience exactly what they want: a Sparks feature. The Mountain, the follow-up to 2023’s Cracker Island, will arrive in March. (Yes, this campaign will be quite the climb.)

It’s been almost exactly a year since the members of Jane’s Addiction broke out in an onstage fistfight in Boston, leading to the cancellation of their tour and the end of the band. In the aftermath of the brawl, most people involved with the tour pointed their fingers at frontman Perry Farrell, while Farrell and his wife, Etty Lau Farrell, …

We got our first exposure to Malloy Hawk’s solo music last year when the Trace Mountains/Customer/M(h)aol member shared the singles “All Your Troubles” and “Run Until They Catch You.” She’s following up those dark, melancholic indie tracks today with something slightly different. Hawk’s new single “Felicity” pairs an acoustic guitar with a drum machine in a way that makes it …

LA synth-rockers HEALTH have been through some big changes since they arrived on our radar nearly two decades ago. They started out as a noisy, experimental art-punk group with some dance tendencies, and they’ve turned into a goth-industrial institution, a reliable source for music that makes you feel like you’re about to get into a gunfight in a late-’90s sci-fi …

Now, there’s another star who could conceivably join her onstage at any moment. Much like Uchis, Ravyn Lenae started out on the artier fringes of the R&B world before finding mainstream fame. In 2016, bucolic New Jersey indie rockers Real Estate parted ways with founding guitarist Matt Mondanile amidst a storm of sexual assault allegations against Mondanile. The band quickly replaced him with Julian Lynch, a musician who also makes solo music under his own name. Last month, Lynch announced that he’s leaving Real Estate after finishing his last few shows with …

A new month is upon us, and in pop in 2025 that means one thing: New sensitive dude just dropped. His name, unfortunately, is sombr. His aesthetic is part indie sleaze, part Timothée Chalamet lookalike contest. Despite his stage name, his music is not really somber; it’s jaunty radio bait that, if not fully rock, is certainly rock-coded. His lyrics …
