One of the nice things about my job is that I get to post new Chat Pile songs all the damn time. The Oklahoma City noise-rockers are riding a serious hot streak. They put out lots of music, and that music is always good. Next month, they’ll drop the new LP Who Loves The Sun, and we’ve already posted the …

Fujiya & Miyagi are back to make people dance. The British band’s most recent album was 2022’s Sight Variations, and now they’re announcing its followup. New Shiny Object arrives this fall, and the lead single “Lowest Common Denominator” is a post-punk heater in the vein of the Bush Tetras. The post Fujiya & Miyagi Announce New Album New Shiny Object: …

The Colorado-based musician, composer, and found sound artist Matthew J. Sage is always getting up to something, and a Bandcamp notification from his account is always welcome. The latest arrived today, heralding Brush Flier, a new EP featuring unused material from last year’s album Tender / Wading. He’s calling these six tracks “daydreams from a different world.” The post M. …

Things happen at rock ‘n’ roll shows. Objects go flying. Ideally, those flying objects don’t injure anyone. Yoyoyoshie, guitarist for the chaotic Japanese punk band Otoboke Beaver, apparently has a history of tossing her instrument into the audience without accidentally injuring anyone, but a recent show at Osaka’s Umeda Club Quattro did not turn out so well. The post Otoboke …

For 20 solid years, the Swedish folk musician Kristian Matsson has been releasing records while calling himself the Tallest Man On Earth. I should be used to it by now. I am not. That stage name is supposed to be ironic. Matsson is not tall at all. He is certainly not the tallest man on Earth. (I’m not the tallest …

Spotify announced today that profiles for fully AI-generated artists will now be labeled as “AI Personas,” and the streamer will exclude music from these profiles from their editorial and algorithmic recommendations. It’s an intriguing step in a saga that is becoming central to the health of the music industry. The post Spotify Announces Badge For “AI Personas,” Will Exclude Their …

Just last year, the LA-based indie rock minimalist Lael Neale released her album Altogether Stranger on Sub Pop. This fall, she’ll follow that LP with a new one called As Killers Do — sick title — on her own label Consensual Sound. Lead single “Slip Away” is a haunted, sophisticated garage rock jam that sits on some grand cosmic continuum …

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey just crossed a billion dollars at the global box office. Tom Holland, the permanently fresh-faced young actor who played Telemachus in The Odyssey, might hit double that number with Spider-Man: Brand New Day. If only for zeitgeist-related reasons, this is obviously a good moment for the LA-based musician and producer who calls himself Telemakus to announce …

The post Album Of The Week: L’Rain fata morgana appeared first on Stereogum.

The upstart quartet starbelliedbug are from San Francisco, where they make compelling mid-fi dream-pop with a gritty emo/post-hardcore edge. Or at least that’s the sound I’m hearing on “crayola car,” the opening track from their forthcoming Lash EP. The band evolved out of a home recording project from Caitlyn Davis and Chris Reza, and you can hear those DIY origins …
