The Spanish rapper Bb trickz has been doing all sorts of cool stuff in recent years, like appearing on Charli XCX’s Brat remix album, building a song out of “Pretty Girl” by Clairo, and working with Hudson Mohawke on her latest singles. Now she’s on the new Benny Blanco track. The post Benny Blanco Announces New Album Hermoso: Hear “Joven …

A couple of days ago, the Mountain Goats released “Candlebox,” the latest single from their upcoming album Days. It’s about a young band in the early ’90s who thinks their whole life is about to change because they’re heading out on tour with quasi-alt-rock hitmakers Candlebox, and it fucking rules. Candlebox are still a band; they did not leave that …

A month ago, former teen phenoms the Linda Lindas made the leap to major-label status, announcing a deal with Warner/Reprise and releasing the new single “Burning Out.” That was, of course, a precursor to an album announcement, which has arrived today. The Linda Lindas will release Gotta Get Out at the end of August, and they’ve lined up one of …

Does the name Bomb The Bass mean anything to you? Because it means something to me. When I was nine years old, my family moved to London for a year — 1988 to 1989, right in time for the Second Summer Of Love. As a dedicated Top Of The Pops viewer, I got really used to hearing production from the …

“Ain’t no post-credits scene. We can all just leave.” That’s the refrain from Open Mike Eagle and Kenny Segal’s new single “Watching A Movie Called Freedom By Myself.” I don’t think we’re supposed to take that line literally. Similarly, I don’t think this is a song about a solo viewing of Freedom, the 2014 film in which Cuba Gooding Jr. …

In a couple of weeks, the ultra-talented Queens musician and widespread collaborator Nick Hakim will release his very cool new album I Can See. When he’s not assisting other artists, Hakim makes woozy, delicate psychedelic soul, and he pushes that sound ever further inward on the new record. He sounds like Marvin Gaye sleepily murmuring to himself before drifting off …

Lots of pop stars experimented with dance music in the ’80s, but the worlds of jungle and R&B stayed pretty separate, at least outside of the imaginations of Missy Elliott, Timbaland, and various UK garage producers. We never got Faith Evans singing over a Roni Size track. I bet that would’ve been great. Today, however, we get to hear what …

Twin Temple, the musical duo comprising married couple Alexandra and Zachary James, make Satanic doo-wop. That’s their brand. There’s no missing it. They have songs like “Let’s Have A Satanic Orgy” and “Lucifer, My Love” and “Burn Your Bible” and “Sex Magick,” all of which sound like authentic ’60s doo-wop songs, except they’re about worshipping Satan. I don’t know how …
