The shoegazey San Francisco rock band Badvril came on my radar through Bandsplain host Yasi Salek, who included one of their dreamy, poppy, hard-slapping songs a playlist a couple years back. We posted their debut album In Heaven last year, describing it as “entrancing,” and today they announced the follow-up. Lethal is dropping in October, and in addition to the …

Sophia Stel can make anything sound like a beautiful daydream, as she did on last year’s fantastic How To Win At Solitaire. The Canadian singer-songwriter and producer is doing it again today with “Molly In The Club,” which is a hypnotic tune about doing molly in the club and contemplating the purpose of jealousy. The post Sophia Stel – “Molly …

Peggy Gou and Ayra Starr have teamed up for the new summer jam “Wo, man.” Built on a hypnotic ’90s house groove, the track combines irresistible melodies with delightfully nonsensical lyrics (“adigidang dang dang di dang”) that make for an instant ear worm. This is guaranteed to be on repeat as I continue to melt in the summer heat. The …

Tom Hardy is one of our best, weirdest movie stars — the type of guy who manages to convey sweaty insanity even in an otherwise pedestrian IP blockbuster like Venom. Hardy is also a rap head to makes music in his spare time. Way back in 1999, he made a mixtape under the name Tommy No. 1, which should honestly …

Ben Gibbard and his Death Cab For Cutie bandmates have been seemingly everywhere promoting their excellent new album I Built You A Tower, including here at Stereogum. The latest stop on the promo tour is Vulture, where Gibbard sat down with Jesse David Fox for the new episode of the Good One podcast. The interview runs nearly 90 minutes, and …

Last month, LA-based queer/trans electropop-bass duo Alli Logout and Margo XS, who release incredibly magnetic music as deBasement, dropped their knockout single “STAY IN YOUR LINE.” I’m happy to announce that that single is part of a new EP HARDBODY that’s coming July 17 via In Real Life Records. They’ve announced the upcoming project with the new single “CUT THE …

Brutalismus 3000, the duo of producer Theo Zeitner and singer Victoria Vassiliki Daldas, appear framed inside a Zoom window from their Berlin apartment, set against an art piece of Blade, half-human, half-vampire, posed in front of an American flag. The image is a fitting background for artists whose work thrives on tension, distortion, and cultural collision. It’s bold, colorful, and …

Cara Delevingne is famous for being a supermodel and an actress, but she’s also apparently buds with the relatively reclusive Fiona Apple. When Apple recorded her 2020 masterpiece Fetch The Bolt Cutters, Delevingne added some backup vocals, including a meow. Now, Delevingne is getting ready to release an album of her own, and she got some help from Apple. Last …

Jae Matthews and Augustus Muller, aka Boy Harsher, are back with a new single, “Jeans,” and it makes me want to go to the mall and do a makeover montage like in nearly every ’80s film. It’s a hairsprayed new wave track that reflects on giving up glam and rock ’n’ roll for small-town freedom. The post Boy Harsher – …

Earlier this week, elder rap hedonist made his first appearance in our Number Ones column. It won’t be his last. Future has been making an impact on popular music for a very, very long time. His first #1 hit was also his 125th chart hit on the Hot 100. He’s a defining generational star. A couple of years ago, he …
