Some lyrics cut straight through the bullshit and latch onto whatever weird, mystical life force is rattling around inside me. That’s exactly how I feel about “Toxic” from Chicago absurdist punks Cel Ray, the follow-up to “Price of Gas” off their forthcoming album Cel Rayzer. Houston’s Hew have a soaring, chiming take on classic emo. When they get going, they can really punch me in the heart. The group, which includes a couple of Football, etc. members, will release their new album Your Version in a few weeks, and you’re going to want to hear that one. It’s good shit. We’ve already posted the title …

Bodywash, the Montreal dream-pop duo of Rosie Long Decter and Chris Steward, released their most recent album I Held The Shape While I Could in 2023, and they followed it with a 2024 cover of Wham!’s “Last Christmas.” Yesterday, they came back with a jangly, pretty new one-off called “Come And Go.” Here’s what Decter says about it: The post …

Right now, Paramore leader Hayley Williams seems to be everywhere. She’s finally touring as a solo act, and she’s touring hard. (Her live show is great, too.) She’s covering Prefab Sprout with Romy. She’s on new albums from beabadoobee and Failure. And she’s making new music with Power Snatch, the new side-project band that she’s got going on. The post …

Brisbane’s Girl And Girl specialize in energetic, catchy-scratchy indie rock jams, and they seem like they’re having the most fun when they’re at their most anxious. They released their most recent single Call A Doctor in 2024. Last year, they followed that record with “The Cow” and “Okay,” two one-off singles of varying levels of seriousness. Today, they’ve got two …

Two Shell! So confusing! Last week, the pranksterish London dance duo announced their upcoming album Infinite Now, which has some truly ugly-beautiful Y2K-ass cover art. They’d already released a bunch of singles earlier in the year, and they added the giddy, ultra-catchy “Thing About You” to the rollout. That all makes sense. Except now Two Shell have released an out-of-nowhere …

Last year, the ambitious St. Louis emo adventurers Foxing announced an indefinite hiatus and played their farewell show. While Foxing were active, frontman Conor Murphy made a handful of side-project records under the name Smidley. Foxing might not be active anymore, but Murphy is still going with Smidley. Today, he announces a new album called Murphy Horse and shares its …
