Say what you will about poptimism, but being an actively touring pop star for over a decade really does wonders for your endurance. Take Harry Styles, for example, who’s been running around singing in arenas and stadiums since he was a teenager. Yesterday, he ran 26.2 miles straight to the finish line at the 2025 Berlin Marathon, and it turns …

Last year, former Lush frontwoman Miki Berenyi, one of the great frontwomen to emerge from ’90s alt-rock, enlisted her Piroshka bandmates Kevin “Moose” McKillop and Oliver Cherer to start a new band called the Miki Bereyi Trio. Their debut album Tripla came out earlier this year, and now they’re getting ready to head out on what appears to be their …

Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism World Tour finally hit US soil earlier this month in Chicago, and she continued her tradition of bringing out local legends to cover their songs together by inviting Chi-town’s own Chaka Khan for a rendition “Ain’t Nobody.” Over the weekend Lipa did her run of Madison Square Garden shows, and she welcomed a couple New York …

Sometimes, the Los Angeles-based musician Lael Neale makes chiming, hazy psychedelia that gives me that old Stereolab/Broadcast feeling. Sometimes, she takes things in a very different direction. That’s what she does on her new single “Some Bright Morning.” It’s a bright, chirpy rock ‘n’ roll song with a few lightly spaced-out touches. A press release mentions the Velvet Underground’s “Train …

We’ve Got A File On You features interviews in which artists share the stories behind the extracurricular activities that dot their careers: acting gigs, guest appearances, random internet ephemera, etc.

The Illinois emo band Bristletongue impressed the hell out of us with their 2018 EP Femme Florale and then never released anything else. Bandleader L Morgan went on to release the solo singles “Blackguard” and “Feign” in 2023. Now, Morgan has teamed up with Greet Death’s Harper Boyhtari to form Christian Science Reading Room, a new band that also features …

Elder have been making spaced-out, psychedelic doom metal for nearly 20 years, which means their name is now entirely accurate. The band started in Massachusetts, but they’re based in Berlin these days. Elder took what the band describes as a “sabbatical” when they finished touring behind 2022’s Innate Passage, their most recent album. When they got back together, they attempted …

Back in February, the esteemed record label Run For Cover and the venerable NYC concert promoter the Bowery Presents revived their long-dormant music festival Something In The Way — which had first taken place in 2016 at New York’s Webster Hall — moving it to Boston and situating it at the 3,500-capacity indoor venue Roadrunner. They’re running it back at …

“I don’t fit in anywhere!” That’s what Drew Waldon screams on the chorus “New From The Pain,” and it’s pretty much true. Waldon leads Gumm, a Chattanooga band that’s spent the past few years carrying the fire for a sincere, vaguely melodic form of hardcore that I generally associate with late-’80s Washington, DC. In the hardcore world, that style isn’t …

A Country Western are part of Philadelphia’s vital constellation of warped post-Alex G, post-TAGABOW indie bands. They released their surprisingly punchy and uptempo album Life On The Lawn last year, and today they’re back with a pair of short new tracks, packaged as an EP called Four-Team Dream Machine. Each one is essentially a solo track: Garrett Miades handles guitar, …
