Even speaking to him through a Zoom call, and actually being from the area myself, it’s hard to say I’ve ever met someone more Atlanta than Belly Gang Kushington. Meshed with a husky baritone, his thick Adamsville drawl sounds like he’s got molasses and tobacco slathered through his jaw. If you ask him about his family, he’ll tell you about his ghetto fabulous great-auntie, who loved to read the Bible and cook chicken for their church pastor and others in the neighborhood. Maybe he’ll mention seeing pictures of his cousin, who he calls his mama, going to Freaknik. When I mention growing up in Cobb County and feeling a sense of pride when Jermaine Dupri and Ludacris dropped “Welcome To Atlanta,” he tells me he was actually on the set of the video shoot. Namely, the part where Luda and JD party at 112. His cousin, who he calls his mama, was in the video.
