The appealingly unhinged LA buzz band untitled (halo) have made the jump from the Bandcamp underground to Dirty Hit, the same label as the 1975, and they’ll release their self-titled debut later this fall. On lead single “aimee lou wood freestyle,” they found some unexplored ground in between classic shoegaze and of-the-moment glitch-rap; it was cool as hell. Now, they’ve …

Connecticut emo crew Anxious released the very good album Bambi last year. Last month, just ahead of their tour with Citizen and Hotline TNT, they dropped the one-off single “Don’t Move.” That tour is happening right now, and Anxious just shared another new song called “Secret Weapon.” This one is a spirited melodic churn that reminds me of grungely ’90s …

Over a very short stretch of time, Boston’s Haywire have vaulted to the absolute top of the hardcore heap, playing crazy shows on an absurd schedule and becoming viral stars without compromising their presentation. They’ve done all this without having all that much music out on the market. With one album and a few splits, Haywire’s entire recorded output is …

Last month, LA’s John Errol made an ominous return with “Float,” his first new music since his 2021 album Inferno. Now, he’s announcing a new record called Damage, arriving this fall. The second single “Shifting Sands” is out today, and it’s a cinematic, towering power ballad that nears eight minutes. The post John Errol Announces New Album Damage: Hear “Shifting …

Australian greats the Church have been making jangly, gauzy space-out music for nearly half a century now, and they were giants of the late-’80s college rock universe. I covered them in my Alternative Number Ones column a couple of years ago, and it wasn’t even for “Under The Milky Way Tonight.” In that time, the Church have never stopped making …

Hayden McGarvey (formerly of Bleary Eyed) and Mikaela Oppenheimer (ex-Hello Mary) introduced their new project Trusselina back in July with a pair of promising tracks, ““Gastro” and “Trusselina Archimboldi.” The songs positioned the Philly duo right alongside fellow Bard affiliates ear in the rising wave of glitchy, folky indie-electronic acts with a twee disposition. Today, they’re back with more music …

Detroit alt-rockers Sponge were all over the radio in the years after they released their gold-selling 1994 debut album Rotting Piñata. They haven’t been that prominent since then, but they’ve stuck around and continued to release music. In 2024, they released 1994, an album that was just covers of songs from that year. Now, Sponge are finally coming to the …

Last month, the Houston venue White Oak Music Hall hosted an event from Ken Paxton, the far right extremist who is currently running for Senate in a much-watched Texas race. The same night that Paxton spoke at White Oak Music Hall, Meet Me @ The Altar and Leisure Hour had a show in a different room of the same venue, …

Brighton’s Porridge Radio were one of the greatest, most reliably cathartic indie rock bands going. So it was a shame when they broke up shortly after 2024’s Clouds In The Sky They Will Always Be There For Me, and it’s correspondingly exciting to learn frontperson Dana Margolin is launching a solo career. The post Porridge Radio’s Dana Margolin Shares Debut …
