The Saxophones returned in February with “Burning With Desire,” a song the indie-jazz-pop duo described as an “homage to New York City.” Today they’re going bicoastal: Their new single “Too Big For California” is out today, and it just so happens to be the latest preview of their November-bound album No Time For Poetry.

New Grass hail from Chicago, where they’ve expanded from a solo project to a trio in recent years. Though sometimes affiliated with the screamo-focused and often abrasive Zegema Beach label, their new self-released EP 4 is not all that screamy. I’d call it post-hardcore — and more importantly, I’d call it electrifying post-hardcore. The grooves are knotty but propulsive and …

It’s somehow been three years since the xx’s Oliver Sim released his solo debut album Hideous Bastard. Fortunately, he’s not keeping us waiting anymore. Sim dropped an infectious new tune called “Obsession” today, a bass-powered ’80s throwback that makes fantastic use of complementary vocals from Katie O’Neill, bringing Sim back into the boy-girl dynamic that works so well in his …

That’s not a typo. The new Midlake album is called A Bridge To Far. Not A Bridge Too Far — A Bridge To Far. Whereas 2022 comeback album For The Sake Of Bethel Woods was produced by John Congleton, a hard-hitting veteran and fellow Texan, this time the Denton band recruited Sam Evian, he of upstate New York folk-rock fame, …

This Friday Dev Hynes will return with Essex Honey, his first Blood Orange album since 2018’s Negro Swan. Go read Tom’s Premature Evaluation review, and then come listen to the record’s final single “Countryside,” which is out today. It’s a moody, wistful slow jam built around cavernous production, over which Hynes sings about missing somebody: “Did you look outside the window?/ …

Ur An Angel I’m Just Particles — pretty good album title! It belongs to Benee, the New Zealand-born, LA-based singer, who has followed her COVID-era hit “Supalonely” with a strong selection of alt-pop tracks. The new album, Benee’s second, is coming in November. Benee says there’s a storyline to the album, and new single “Cinnamon” surely factors into that.

Iceage has been seemingly dormant for quite a while now, but singer Elias Rønnenfelt has been quite busy over the past year. Last October he shared his debut solo album Heavy Glory, and in the months since he’s shared the single “Carry-On Bag” and appeared on projects with artists like Dean Blunt and Jonatan Leandoer96 (aka Yung Lean). I suppose …

For almost a decade, a group of women from various noteworthy Seattle indie rock bands have been playing together in a supergroup called Who Is She? Now, two of those members have started a spinoff band inspired by a romantasy book series. Prepare for many more proper nouns in 3, 2, 1…

Gloria Gaynor’s biggest hit, the 1978 disco staple “I Will Survive,” became a de facto gay anthem amid the AIDS crisis that followed shortly thereafter. It was a bit of a head-scratcher when Donald Trump — who appointed himself head of the Kennedy Center earlier this year — announced that Gaynor would be one of 2025’s Kennedy Center Honorees, an …

Last year Bon Jovi returned with Forever, their first album since 2020’s aptly titled 2020. The album featured “Waves,” a collaboration with alt-country superstar Jason Isbell. Soon, Isbell won’t be the only guest on the album.
